Absolute Dental Vancouver before and after

There are a number of teeth whitening solutions on the market. At our Vancouver dental office, Absolute Dental, we can explain the pros and cons of whitening toothpastes, at-home whitening, and in-office lightening. Our Victoria Drive Teeth Whitening dentist, Dr. Kelly Jordan, will consider your distinct oral health conditions and can advise you on which, if any, is an ideal technique for whitening your teeth.

There are countless teeth whitening products and methods on the market for clients who wish to achieve a brighter smile. So many, in fact, that it can be difficult to choose just one. The best first step to start off any teeth lightening program is to schedule a visit and speak with our Vancouver teeth whitening dentist, Dr. Kelly Jordan, about the differences between in-office expert bleaching and at-home whitening.

In-Office Teeth Whitening

In-office teeth whitening is a procedure that takes place in a dental practice, by your dental professional. Your dentist will apply a lightening gel to the surface of your teeth and the lightening gel is then activated. Winthin a short period of time this will help lift the stains and whiten your teeth. Within a single procedure your teeth can lighten up to 8 shades!

At-Home Teeth Whitening

Tray Whitening

Tray bleaching is a type of expert bleaching that utilizes custom-made trays and whitening gel made available by dental practitioners. The whitening gel is placed in custom-fitted trays that fit comfortable and snuggly over your teeth. As the peroxide in the gel breaks down, hydroxyradicals help lighten stained teeth. Unlike strips, this procedure whitens all your natural teeth and might consist of ingredients meant to provide maximum convenience. At-home professional tray lightening normally takes anywhere from one to two weeks. However, you may see some results in as little as three to five days.

Whitening Strips

Teeth bleaching strips are flexible plastic (polyethylene) strips with a thin film of hydrogen peroxide on one side. Lightening strip kits include 2 kinds of strips: strips for the upper teeth and strips for the lower teeth. The lightening agent is applied by positioning the strips across your teeth and carefully pressing the strips into place to make sure contact with all your teeth. Teeth lightening strips are typically worn for 30 minutes a day, two times a day. The duration of treatment will differ for each patient.

Paint-On Teeth Whiteners

There are numerous non-prescription teeth whitening alternatives, and one type of readily-accessible bleaching product is commonly referred to as a “paint-on” teeth whitener. Paint-on whiteners can be bought over the counter and typically are less expensive and less effective than lightening strips or professional options. Paint-on lightening gel is applied to the tooth using a small brush and then solidifies into a film that coats the teeth, and eventually dissolves in the mouth. Similar to any teeth bleaching program, it is a good idea to seek advice from a dental professional before use.

Whitening Toothpaste and Mouthwash

The least pricey options are whitening toothpastes and mouthwashes. Designed to have bleaching “abilities”, toothpastes and mouthwashes work to get rid of surface area stains by making use of moderate abrasives. However, unlike the products used in expert lightening treatments, these products do not lighten the actual color shade of the tooth. Whitening toothpastes affect surface discolorations and will mildly lighten your teeth.
